Game Recap
Baltimore secured a commanding victory, largely thanks to two powerful offensive surges and a stellar performance from their starting pitcher. The Orioles built an early lead and then decisively blew the game open with a five-run seventh inning, rendering Houston's late rally inconsequential.
The scoring commenced in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jeremiah Jackson doubled home Alonso. Baltimore then significantly extended its advantage in the fifth; Adley Rutschman launched a four-run home run to left-center, bringing Alexander, Henderson, and Ward across the plate to push the lead to five. Houston managed to get on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh with a single from Vรกzquez that scored Matthews, cutting the deficit.
However, Baltimore quickly extinguished any hopes of a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, unleashing a five-run outburst that put the game firmly out of reach. Beavers drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Ward, followed by Jackson's second big hit of the night, a three-run home run to left-center. That blast, which also scored Rutschman and Alonso, stretched Baltimore's lead to nine runs. Throughout these offensive barrages, Chris Bassitt provided a masterful performance on the mound for Baltimore, limiting Houston to just one earned run over 6.2 innings while striking out seven. Though Houston added two more runs in the eighth on singles from Diaz and Matthews, the damage was already done.
Ultimately, Baltimore's ability to capitalize with multi-run innings, especially the decisive five-run frame, combined with Bassitt's steady pitching, established an insurmountable lead. The Orioles improved their record to 62-63, while the Astros now stand at 63-63.
