The New York Mets, entering the contest at 46-63 and favored against the 55-54 Miami Marlins, found themselves in an early battle at home. Marlins starter Eury Perez delivered a strong outing, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out six. It was Miami who drew first blood in the top of the fourth inning when Kyle Stowers, who finished as Miami's top batter with a home run, launched a 368-foot shot to right field, putting the Marlins up 1-0.

The Mets finally broke through against Perez in the bottom of the sixth. Francisco Lindor's single to right field brought home Alvarez, evening the score at 1-1. The home team didn't stop there, as Lindor later scored on a fielding error by third baseman Pauley, allowing Robert Jr. to reach first and giving New York a 2-1 advantage. However, the Marlins quickly responded in the top of the seventh, with Marsee hitting a 385-foot homer to right-center, once again tying the game at 2-2.

With the game hanging in the balance, the Mets secured their victory in the bottom of the eighth. Robert Jr. came through with a critical single to left field, driving in both Bichette and Benge. The two-run hit not only put New York ahead 4-2 but also allowed Robert Jr. to advance to second. This decisive rally proved to be enough as the Mets held on to win, validating their pregame favoritism and closing out the Marlins by a final score of 4-2.
