Game Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers, entering the game as heavy favorites with a dominant 67-39 record, ultimately overcame an early onslaught from the San Diego Padres (53-53) to secure a convincing 12-7 victory. The Padres, however, wasted no time in making their presence felt. Manny Machado kicked things off in the first inning with a 408-foot two-run homer, scoring Tatis Jr. In what initially appeared to be a significant turning point, San Diego then exploded for four more runs in the second. Merrill launched a solo shot to left center, followed by Jake Cronenworth's 383-foot, three-run blast to right center that brought home Bogaerts and Tatis Jr., staking the Padres to a commanding 6-0 lead.
But the Dodgersβ powerful offense quickly began to chip away at the deficit. Dalton Rushing, who would go on to have a stellar night, hit a 394-foot two-run homer to center in the bottom of the second, bringing Tucker across the plate and narrowing the gap to 6-2. The comeback continued in the third inning as Max Muncy's double to center scored Betts, and Tucker's single to right drove in Muncy, cutting the Padresβ lead to just two runs, 6-4.
Los Angeles completed their rally in an explosive fourth inning, seizing control of the contest. Pages doubled to left, bringing home Edman and Rushing to tie the game at 6-6. Mookie Betts then immediately put the Dodgers ahead with a double to center, scoring Pages. Not content, Muncy followed with a single to center that scored Betts, pushing the lead to 8-6 and firmly shifting the momentum in favor of the team favored pregame.
The Dodgers continued to pour on the offense, extending their lead through the middle innings. Edman's double to right in the fifth scored Rushing, followed by Edman scoring on a wild pitch to make it 10-6. Dalton Rushing continued his standout performance in the sixth, hitting a sacrifice fly to center that scored Tucker. He capped his exceptional night in the eighth with an RBI single to right, his fourth hit of the game, bringing his total to 4 RBI and 3 runs scored, as the Dodgers reached 12 runs. The Padres managed one final run in the ninth when Andujar singled home Taylor, but it was too little, too late. On the pitching side, Will Klein delivered a top performance in relief, striking out three over two shutout innings to help seal the favored Dodgers' 12-7 victory.
