Seattle Mariners vs San Diego Padres — Recap

📰Game Recap

The San Diego Padres staged a stunning late-game comeback to defeat the Seattle Mariners 7-6. A five-run outburst in the bottom of the ninth inning allowed San Diego to erase a multi-run deficit and snatch victory from what appeared to be a Mariners win.

Seattle had initially built a significant lead through strong offensive contributions and solid pitching. Outfielder Luke Raley was particularly impactful, delivering four hits, including a home run, and driving in two runs while scoring twice himself. On the mound, Mariners starter Emerson Hancock turned in a strong performance, fanning six batters over six innings of work and yielding just two earned runs. The Mariners managed to hold their advantage deep into the contest, appearing in control.

Despite Seattle's firm grip on the game for eight innings, the momentum completely shifted in the final frame. The Padres lineup ignited for five runs in the bottom of the ninth, marking their most productive inning of the night. This sudden surge irrevocably altered the game's complexion, rendering Seattle's earlier efforts from Raley and Hancock insufficient to hold off the rally.

Ultimately, it was the Padres' improbable ninth-inning surge that proved to be the decisive factor, securing a dramatic one-run victory. The Mariners now hold a 59-67 record, while the Padres improved to 68-58 following the thrilling win.
