The Atlanta Braves methodically took control of the game after an early deficit, securing a comfortable victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. After surrendering a run in the opening frame, Atlanta's pitching staff locked down St. Louis, allowing the offense to build a lead and ultimately break the game open late. St. Louis initially jumped ahead when Walker singled to right, scoring Herrera in the top of the first inning. However, the Braves quickly responded in the bottom half as Ozzie Albies doubled home Baldwin, tying the score. Albies then gave Atlanta the lead for good in the third inning, launching a solo home run to right center. Despite only holding a one-run lead into the eighth, the Braves' pitching had largely stifled the Cardinals' lineup since the first inning. Atlanta's offense then exploded for three crucial insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, extending their slim advantage. Harris II’s single brought home Baldwin, and after Dubón executed a sacrifice bunt to score Albies, Riley delivered an RBI single that drove in Dubón, cementing the victory. Reynaldo Lopez set the tone on the mound, allowing just one earned run over 5.0 innings while striking out six. Atlanta's combination of stingy pitching and timely, then expansive, hitting ultimately proved too much for the Cardinals to overcome. They secured their 71st victory of the season, moving to 71-45, while St. Louis fell to 57-59.
