Washington Nationals vs Houston Astros — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Houston Astros defeated the Washington Nationals 7-1, patiently breaking open a scoreless game after the Nationals' starter departed and holding Washington's offense largely in check throughout the contest.

Nationals right-hander Cade Cavalli kept Houston's bats quiet through four dominant innings, striking out six and allowing no earned runs. However, the Astros' lineup ignited once Cavalli exited the contest, with John Garcia's solo home run being a key contribution to their eventual scoring. Washington managed only a single run in response.

Houston's offensive depth ultimately proved decisive, as the club scored all seven of its runs after Cavalli's strong initial outing. The Astros consistently threatened against Washington's relief pitchers, with Garcia's long ball highlighting their ability to break through. The Nationals, meanwhile, could not generate enough offense to support their pitching, managing only one run across the entire game.

Ultimately, the Astros’ persistence at the plate overcame a stellar initial performance from Washington's starter, as their lineup found its rhythm against the bullpen. Washington's bats remained silent throughout, unable to mount any sustained pressure. The Astros now stand at 64-62 for the season, while the Nationals fell to 60-67.
