Game Recap
Cleveland secured a decisive victory over New England, largely on the strength of a prolific first half. The Browns built an early lead in the first quarter, fueled by two touchdown passes from Dillon Gabriel, and extended their advantage through the first half. The Patriots struggled to generate offense, failing to score any points in the second half while their opponents continued to pad the lead.
The game began with Cleveland quickly taking the lead on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Dillon Gabriel to Luke Floriea. New England responded to tie the score, as Tommy DeVito connected with Kyle Williams for a 45-yard touchdown strike. However, the Browns immediately pulled ahead again, with Gabriel finding Floriea for a second touchdown, this time from 14 yards out, and kicker Andre Szmyt added a field goal to close out a dominant first quarter for Cleveland. Szmyt continued his strong performance in the second quarter with a 47-yard field goal, further widening the gap. While Andy Borregales managed two field goals for the Patriots, splitting a 7-yard touchdown pass from Gabriel to Ahmani Marshall, New England never again managed to tie or take the lead.
The turning point in the contest clearly emerged in the opening quarter, where the Browns' offense clicked immediately, piling up 17 points. Dillon Gabriel's two touchdown passes to Luke Floriea established a rhythm that the Patriots could not disrupt. After New England briefly tied the game early, Cleveland answered back decisively, and from that point forward, the Browns consistently maintained at least a 7-point cushion. The Patriots' offense, despite two field goals from Andy Borregales in the second quarter, could not sustain drives or find the end zone after their initial burst. Their scoring completely dried up in the second half, allowing Cleveland to comfortably extend their lead with a Davon Booth touchdown run and another Andre Szmyt field goal in the fourth quarter.
Cleveland's ability to capitalize on early offensive opportunities and maintain consistent scoring in the first half proved insurmountable for New England, whose offense ultimately sputtered. The Browns' initial surge set the tone, and their defense ensured the Patriots could not mount a comeback. Cleveland now holds a 1-2 record, while New England stands at 1-1-1.
Biggest Quarter
The Cleveland Browns scored 17 points in the 1st quarter β the biggest single quarter of the game.
