πŸ“°Game Recap

The Cincinnati Reds secured a 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres in 11 innings on Tuesday, finally breaking a late tie with a two-run home run from Sal Stewart. This extra-inning affair saw both teams exchange leads and answer back multiple times, culminating in Cincinnati's decisive final rally.

Cincinnati initially gained an advantage in the second inning when Stephenson singled home McLain, then added to it in the third on a fielding error by pitcher Giolito that scored Bleday. However, San Diego quickly erased that lead in the bottom of the third, as Merrill's triple brought home Tatis Jr., followed by Machado's single scoring Merrill. The game remained deadlocked until the 10th inning, when SuΓ‘rez doubled in Steer to put the Reds back in front. But the Padres once again responded, with Taylor delivering a single to score Sheets and extend the game.

This prolonged battle was ultimately decided in the 11th when Stewart launched a 407-foot, two-run homer to center field, bringing home Dunn and giving Cincinnati a lead they would not relinquish. This decisive blast finally broke the pattern of San Diego immediately answering Cincinnati's rallies. Earlier in the contest, Reds pitcher Chase Burns set the tone, keeping his team competitive by striking out seven and allowing just two earned runs over 5.1 innings of work, ensuring the game stayed close enough for the late heroics.

Cincinnati's ability to capitalize on the extra frames, particularly Stewart's timely power, proved to be the difference in a hard-fought contest that went back and forth for much of the night. Their final push in the 11th inning solidified the win, despite the Padres' resilience. The Reds improved their record to 60-65, while the Padres fell to 67-59.
