The San Diego Padres overcame a late-game deficit to defeat the Cincinnati Reds, securing a walk-off victory after trailing by two runs in the eighth inning. The Padres, who were favored heading into the contest, closed out the win at home.

The Padres got on the board first when Machado doubled in Merrill in the bottom of the first. Cincinnati quickly responded in the fourth inning, taking a 2-1 lead on Steer’s two-run home run. Fernando Tatis Jr. then knotted the score at two for San Diego in the fifth with an RBI single, but the Reds again pulled ahead with solo homers from Bleday in the seventh and Suárez in the eighth, building a 4-2 lead.

Cincinnati’s two-run cushion was short-lived as San Diego mounted a decisive rally in the bottom of the eighth. Sheets doubled to right, scoring Merrill and cutting the deficit to one. Immediately after, Taylor singled to center, bringing home Bowen and tying the game. The stage was then set for Tatis Jr., who, after an earlier RBI single, launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to seal the dramatic comeback win for the Padres.

San Diego's persistent offense, especially in the game's final frames, proved to be the difference, allowing them to capitalize on crucial opportunities. The Padres now hold a 68-58 record, while the Reds fall to 59-66.
