Cleveland Guardians vs Detroit Tigers — Recap

📰Game Recap

Cleveland secured a tight, low-scoring victory over Detroit on Saturday, largely on the strength of its pitching staff which kept the Tigers' offense largely in check. The Guardians broke open the scoring early and maintained their advantage, ultimately fending off a late threat from the home team.

The Guardians first broke through in the third inning, with Schneemann's double scoring Rocchio, followed by José Ramírez's single that brought Schneemann across the plate for a 2-0 lead. The score remained locked until the eighth, when Bailey's solo home run added to Cleveland's advantage. Detroit finally got on the board in the bottom of that inning, as Dillon Dingler connected for a solo shot to left center.

The key to Cleveland's victory was the masterful performance by starter Joey Cantillo, who stifled Detroit's hitters over 5.2 scoreless innings, fanning six batters. His extended stretch of dominance ensured the Guardians' early two-run lead felt insurmountable for much of the game. While Dingler managed two hits, including Detroit's only run, the Tigers struggled to string together any sustained offense against Cantillo and the subsequent relief.

Ultimately, Cleveland's blend of strong pitching and timely, albeit limited, offensive output was enough to secure the road win. The Guardians now stand at 61-65, while the Tigers fall to 60-65.
