Colorado Rockies vs Milwaukee Brewers — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Milwaukee Brewers, heavily favored coming into their matchup against the Colorado Rockies, secured an 8-5 victory, living up to their pregame expectations. Entering the game with a commanding 66-39 record compared to the Rockies' 42-65, the Brewers quickly established control. Starter Robert Gasser delivered a strong performance, ultimately pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs while striking out four. The Brewers' offense backed him early, with Lara hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to bring Bauers home, followed by Cooper Pratt's 409-foot solo home run to left center, giving Milwaukee an early 2-0 advantage.

Colorado, however, refused to go quietly. In the top of the fourth inning, the Rockies mounted a comeback, with Goodman singling to left field to drive in both Karros and Carrigg, leveling the score at 2-2. The tie was short-lived, as Cooper Pratt continued his impressive day at the plate in the bottom of the fourth, singling to right to score Bauers and put the Brewers back in front, 3-2.

The game's pivotal moment arrived in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Brewers exploded for four runs, extending their lead significantly. Lara started the rally with a crucial two-run double to left, scoring Contreras and Bauers. Pratt then added to his stellar performance with a sacrifice fly to left, bringing Mitchell home. The inning's scoring was capped off in an unusual fashion when Lara scored on a pickoff error by Rockies catcher Fulford, pushing the Brewers' lead to 7-2. This offensive outburst in the sixth proved to be the turning point, solidifying Milwaukee's control over the game.

Milwaukee added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, as Yelich hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Lara to score and making it 8-2. The Rockies showed some late fight in the ninth inning, attempting a desperate rally. McCarthy delivered a two-run single to center, scoring Rumfield and Sullivan, narrowing the deficit to 8-4. Karros followed with an RBI single to center, bringing Tovar home and making the score 8-5. Despite their valiant efforts, Colorado's comeback ultimately fell short, and the Brewers closed out the game with an 8-5 final score, successfully defending their home turf and affirming their status as the favored team, thanks in large part to Cooper Pratt's three-hit, three-RBI performance.
