Houston Astros vs Washington Nationals — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Washington Nationals clinched a tight 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros, securing the win with a critical solo home run and a dominant performance from their bullpen in a low-scoring affair.

Offense proved scarce for both teams throughout the game. The Nationals managed to break the scoreless tie when Jorgelys Mota launched a solo home run, which accounted for half of Washington’s total scoring. Houston, meanwhile, could only muster a single run against the Nationals' pitching staff, ensuring a one-run margin for most of the contest.

Mota's powerful swing ultimately provided the decisive offense, proving to be the difference-maker in a game where base runners were at a premium. On the pitching side, Jake Eder delivered a pivotal relief outing for Washington, tossing two hitless innings while striking out two batters and allowing no earned runs. His ability to neutralize the Astros' lineup proved crucial in preserving the narrow lead as Houston struggled to mount any sustained rallies.

Ultimately, Washington's combination of timely power at the plate and effective shutdown pitching prevailed, holding Houston to just one run through nine innings. The Nationals now hold a 61-66 record, while the Astros' record moves to 63-63.
