Los Angeles Angels vs Chicago Cubs — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-2, largely thanks to a five-run outburst in the third inning that seized control of the game. Solid pitching from Matthew Boyd and timely hitting, including a three-hit performance from Nico Hoerner, solidified the victory for the home team.

The Angels initially took a 1-0 lead, but their advantage was short-lived. Chicago quickly erased that deficit, with the decisive third inning seeing them plate five runs to establish a commanding 5-1 lead. The Cubs later added another run to extend their lead, while the Angels managed to push across just one more run over the remainder of the contest, never seriously threatening the Cubs' comfortable cushion.

That pivotal third inning proved to be the turning point, overwhelming the Angels' early lead and establishing a gap they could not close. Matthew Boyd was instrumental in stifling the Angels' offense, striking out 10 batters and allowing only one earned run through 5 2/3 innings. Nico Hoerner consistently put pressure on the Angels' pitching, tallying three hits and contributing an RBI and a run scored to the Cubs' effort.

Ultimately, Chicago's potent offense in the third, combined with Boyd's dominant outing on the mound, was too much for the Angels to overcome. The Cubs now stand at 73-53, while the Angels fell to 49-77.
