Los Angeles Angels vs Detroit Tigers — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Los Angeles Angels staged a late-game comeback, overcoming a two-run deficit with a decisive five-run eighth inning to defeat the Detroit Tigers. Vaughn Grissom’s grand slam highlighted the Angels’ rally that shifted momentum decisively.

The Angels initially took a lead, scoring two runs in the third inning on Grissom’s single and adding two more in the fourth thanks to Adell’s solo homer and Neto’s RBI double, building a 4-1 advantage. However, the Tigers responded, first cutting the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a McKinstry sacrifice fly. Detroit then surged ahead in the fifth, tying the game on McGonigle’s two-run triple and taking the lead on Jones’s RBI single. Pérez extended the Tigers’ lead to 6-4 with a solo home run in the sixth.

The game dramatically shifted in the eighth inning. Following an RBI double by O’Hoppe that brought the Angels within a run, Vaughn Grissom stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and launched a grand slam to right-center field. This pivotal swing erased Detroit’s lead and propelled Los Angeles to a 9-6 advantage, capping their largest scoring inning of the game with five runs. The Tigers’ starting pitcher, Keider Montero, had exited after 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs, but the bullpen ultimately couldn’t hold the late lead.

The Angels’ resilient offense, spearheaded by Grissom’s six-RBI performance, proved too much for the Tigers’ pitching staff to contain in the later innings, turning a deficit into a commanding victory. Los Angeles now stands at 50-76, while Detroit’s record falls to 60-65.
