Clemens crushed a 374-foot homer to right center, driving in Keaschall and giving the Twins a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish. Starting pitcher Dean Kremer delivered a solid performance for Minnesota, completing five innings while allowing only two earned runs, both coming on McGonigle's fifth-inning blast.

The Twins' immediate and decisive response to Detroit seizing the lead proved to be the difference in a game where both teams struggled to generate consistent offense.
