Minnesota Twins vs Kansas City Royals โ€” Recap

๐Ÿ“ฐGame Recap

The Minnesota Twins mounted a late-game surge, scoring three runs in the eighth inning to secure a 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals. This marked an upset against a Royals team that entered the game as a favorite in the pregame market, and also bucked SportsFBI's proprietary model, which had strongly favored Kansas City.

The Royals initially took the lead in the third inning when Caglianone delivered a two-run single to right field, bringing Jensen and Witt Jr. home. Minnesota responded in the fifth, narrowing the deficit to one run on Royce Lewis's 421-foot solo home run to left. Kansas City then pushed its lead back to two runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Perez singled to left, allowing Witt Jr. to score.

The decisive turning point came in the top of the eighth inning, when the Twins erupted for three runs. Bell's single to right brought Keaschall across the plate, pulling Minnesota within a single run. The go-ahead hit followed immediately, with Lee singling to right and driving in both Jackson and Jeffers, giving the Twins a 4-3 advantage. Despite a solid outing from Royals starter Michael Wacha, who pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just one earned run, the Kansas City bullpen was unable to hold the lead.

Ultimately, Minnesota's timely hitting in the eighth inning proved too much for the Royals to overcome, as their offense stalled in the final frames. The Twins now stand at 57-59, while the Royals fall to 48-68.
