The Chicago Cubs rallied late to overcome a dominant pitching performance by Toronto's Dylan Cease, scoring two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and walking off with a victory in the eleventh. Chicago's offense struggled for much of the night but ultimately capitalized on a crucial ninth-inning home run and a costly error in extra innings to secure the dramatic win.

Toronto opened the scoring early, with Okamoto crossing the plate in the top of the first inning due to a disengagement violation. The Blue Jays maintained their slim lead through a pitchers' duel, finally adding an insurance run in the seventh inning when Kirk singled to left field, bringing home Giménez. This gave Toronto a 2-0 advantage heading into the late frames.

The game dramatically shifted in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs and a runner on, Alex Bregman launched a 368-foot home run to left field, scoring Crow-Armstrong and tying the game at 2-2, sending it to extra innings. This crucial two-run blast negated the stellar outing from Cease, who finished with 7.0 shutout innings and ten strikeouts. The Cubs then clinched the victory in the bottom of the eleventh when Crow-Armstrong scored the winning run on a throwing error by catcher Valenzuela, allowing Chicago to complete the comeback.

Despite an outstanding effort from their starting pitcher, the Blue Jays could not hold their late lead, ultimately succumbing to the Cubs' timely hitting and an extra-innings miscue. The opportunistic Chicago offense found a way to win against a stingy Toronto pitching staff. The Chicago Cubs improved their record to 67-49, while the Toronto Blue Jays fell to 54-62.
