The New York Mets overcame an early deficit and a Miami Marlins' four-run second inning to secure a 9-4 victory on the road. Despite falling behind briefly, the Mets offense consistently chipped away and ultimately pulled away from the favored Marlins. New York started strong, taking a 3-0 lead through the first two innings. Soto scored on an error in the first, followed by Bichette scoring on another throwing error. Morabito's single in the second extended the Mets' lead. The Marlins then mounted their biggest rally of the game in the bottom of the second. Sanoja's triple brought home Marsee, and Graham Pauley then launched a three-run home run to right field, putting Miami ahead 4-3. The Marlins' lead, however, proved short-lived. The Mets immediately responded in the top of the third when Alvarez singled to center, scoring Semien to tie the game at 4-4. The pivotal moment arrived in the fourth inning. Bichette's single drove in Lindor, putting New York back in front. Ewing then doubled to left, bringing home both Benge and Soto, stretching the Mets' lead to 7-4. New York solidified their advantage in the sixth inning with two more runs, first on a Semien double that scored Benge, and then an Ewing single that plated Semien. Mets starter Jonah Tong pitched five innings, striking out seven despite giving up four earned runs. Ultimately, the New York offense's ability to answer Miami's scoring and build upon its own momentum proved decisive, allowing them to pull off the upset despite being the underdog. The New York Mets improved to 66-78, while the Miami Marlins fell to 72-73.
