After Kirk’s solo homer put Toronto on the board in the second, Oakland responded in the third with Bolte scoring on a fielder’s choice by Gelof, who then scored himself on a single by Cortes. Bolte extended the lead further in the fifth with a solo home run, making it 5-1.

Toronto ignited its comeback attempt in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to narrow the deficit. Okamoto led off the inning with a solo home run. Later, Andres Gimenez doubled to left, scoring Lukes, before Smith hit a sacrifice fly to bring Clement home, cutting the Athletics’ lead to a single run. Giménez then delivered a game-tying solo home run in the top of the ninth, bringing the score to 5-5. However, the Athletics capitalized in the bottom of the ninth, with McNeil’s infield single scoring Walton for the walk-off win.

Oakland’s resilience, particularly in responding to Toronto’s late-game surge, proved to be the decisive factor in an unexpected victory for the underdog squad. The Athletics moved to 58-87, while the Blue Jays fell to 72-73.
