๐Ÿ“ฐGame Recap

The Boston Red Sox, entering the contest as slight favorites against the New York Yankees, ultimately delivered on their pregame odds in a dramatic extra-inning affair. What began as a pitchers' duel quickly turned into a battle of attrition, but it was the Red Sox who prevailed with a 5-4 victory. Boston's ace, Sonny Gray, set a dominant tone for much of the game, pitching 7.1 innings of shutout baseball with an impressive nine strikeouts, baffling the Yankees lineup. His efforts were rewarded in the bottom of the fourth inning when Caleb Durbin singled to center, driving in Abreu and Contreras to give Boston a 2-0 lead that held until the final frames.

The Yankees, however, refused to be shut out, mounting a ninth-inning rally to send the game to extras. With two outs, Rice flied out to right field, but a crucial throwing error by right fielder Abreu allowed Caballero to score and Volpe to advance to third, cutting the deficit to one. Goldschmidt then grounded into a fielder's choice to shortstop, bringing Volpe home and tying the game at 2-2, setting the stage for a tense tenth inning.

New York capitalized on another Boston miscue in the top of the tenth to take its first lead of the game. Rosario singled to right, and Schuemann scored on a second throwing error by right fielder Abreu, with Rosario advancing to second. Wells then grounded into a fielder's choice, plating Rosario and giving the Yankees a 4-2 advantage after a challenged call on the field was upheld. With a two-run lead in the bottom of the tenth, it appeared the Yankees had seized control of the game.

But the Red Sox were not to be denied on their home turf. What proved to be the game's turning point, Boston's three-run explosion in the bottom of the tenth, began with Seigler's single to right, scoring Durbin. Cheng followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Monasterio home and tying the game once more. The comeback was completed when Duran singled to right, allowing Yoshida to score the winning run, securing the Red Sox's 5-4 walk-off victory and improving their record to 56-50. Caleb Durbin, with his two RBI and a run scored, stood out offensively for the Red Sox in a truly memorable contest.
