Seattle Mariners vs Cleveland Guardians — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Cleveland Guardians secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners, building an early lead thanks to stellar pitching and then holding off a late-inning surge from the favored visitors. The Guardians’ early offensive production, coupled with a dominant start from their pitcher, provided just enough cushion to withstand a dramatic eighth-inning comeback attempt from Seattle.

Cleveland opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning when Watson doubled to right field, bringing home Bazzana. The Guardians continued to threaten, and Ingle followed with a single to right, plating Manzardo and Watson to extend the lead to 3-0. An inning later, Rocchio doubled to left, scoring Bazzana and pushing Cleveland's advantage to 4-0, where it remained until the late stages of the game. Seattle finally broke through in the top of the eighth inning when Randy Arozarena launched a 427-foot home run to center, driving in Rodríguez and Canzone to cut the deficit to a single run.

Cleveland’s early offensive burst, combined with the masterful performance of starting pitcher Slade Cecconi, proved decisive. Cecconi stifled the Mariners’ lineup through six shutout innings, striking out four and allowing his team to establish a crucial four-run advantage that put Seattle on its heels. Despite Arozarena’s powerful shot in the eighth, which accounted for all of Seattle's runs and represented the largest scoring inning for either team, the Mariners were unable to fully erase the deficit built during Cecconi’s dominance and Cleveland’s productive middle innings.

Ultimately, the Guardians’ ability to jump ahead and maintain that lead through strong pitching was the key to their upset victory against a favored opponent. The win moves the Cleveland Guardians to 59-59, while the Seattle Mariners fall to 56-62.
