Game Recap
The Miami Marlins, entering the contest with a 55-54 record and favored on the pregame market against the 46-62 San Francisco Giants, lived up to expectations with a narrow 4-3 victory. The home side wasted no time establishing an early lead, as Owen Caissie connected for a 401-foot solo home run to center field in the bottom of the first inning, putting Miami up 1-0. However, the Giants quickly responded in the top of the second, with Susac hitting a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Adames to score, knotting the game at 1-1.
The seesaw battle continued into the middle innings. After a few quiet frames, Caissie once again put the Marlins ahead in the bottom of the fifth, doubling to right field to score Sanoja and make it 2-1. But the Giants mounted a strong response in the top of the sixth, first with Devers launching a 413-foot home run to right-center, tying the game at 2-2. They weren't done, as Schmitt followed up with a single to right, bringing Lee home and giving San Francisco their first lead of the afternoon, 3-2. Giants starter Landen Roupp delivered a solid outing, throwing 6.0 innings and striking out 7 while allowing just 2 earned runs.
The Marlins, however, refused to be denied on their home turf. In the bottom of the seventh, they orchestrated a rally that would ultimately decide the game. Hicks singled to right, scoring Ruiz and advancing himself to second, while Sanoja moved to third, tying the game once more at 3-3. With Sanoja on third, Caissie completed his stellar day at the plate with a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Sanoja to cross home plate and put Miami back in front for good, 4-3. Caissie was the standout performer offensively, finishing with 3 hits, including his early home run and a double, driving in 3 RBI, and scoring a run.
