Game Recap
The heavily favored Los Angeles Dodgers, entering the game with a dominant 69-40 record, lived up to their pregame billing in a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles (53-56). The Dodgers wasted no time establishing an early lead against Baltimore's Trey Gibson, who despite recording eight strikeouts over five innings, allowed two runs in the bottom of the first when Freddie Muncy singled home Tucker and Mookie Betts. An inning later, Betts was a part of the action again, as Pages doubled to left to score Freeland, a call upheld after a Baltimore challenge, pushing the Dodgers' lead to 3-0.
The Orioles, however, mounted a formidable comeback, with the sixth inning proving to be a pivotal "turning point." In the top of the sixth, Gunnar Henderson launched a 375-foot solo home run to right, bringing Holliday home and cutting the deficit to 3-2. Not to be outdone, Alonso immediately followed with a 375-foot blast of his own to left center, tying the game at 3-3. Baltimore wasn't done, as in the top of the seventh, Jackson singled to right, driving in Cowser and Mayo and advancing Holliday to second, giving the Orioles a surprising 5-3 advantage.
But the Dodgers, propelled by a stellar individual performance from Mookie Betts, staged their own late-game heroics. Betts, who finished the night with three hits, a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored, led off the bottom of the ninth with a 378-foot homer to left, pulling Los Angeles within one run at 5-4. The rally continued as Rushing singled to right, and a critical throwing error by right fielder O'Neill allowed both Call and Ward to score, securing a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory for the Dodgers and ensuring the pregame favorite ultimately prevailed.
