Atlanta defeated Washington 4-2, scoring three unanswered runs after the Nationals briefly took a lead in the fourth inning. The Braves relied on timely hitting and took advantage of a defensive miscue to secure the narrow victory, holding the visiting team scoreless for the final five frames.

Mike Yastrzemski put Atlanta on the board first with a solo home run to right-center in the bottom of the third inning. Washington answered swiftly in the top of the fourth, first when Ruiz scored on a Chaparro hit by pitch, then taking the lead on a sacrifice fly from Wood that brought Tena home. However, Atlanta immediately countered with Olson’s solo shot to right in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game once more.

The Braves took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Riley scored on a throwing error by shortstop Abrams, giving Atlanta a 3-2 advantage they would not relinquish. Yastrzemski extended the lead to two runs in the seventh with his second RBI of the game, a sacrifice fly to center that scored Dubón, providing valuable insurance. Despite a solid six-inning, two-run effort from Washington starter Cade Cavalli, the Nationals’ offense sputtered after their two-run fourth.

Atlanta’s ability to immediately respond to Washington’s brief lead, capitalize on a defensive error, and then hold the Nationals scoreless for the game’s final five innings proved decisive. The Braves improved their record to 67-45, while the Nationals fell to 55-58.
