Tennessee Titans vs San Francisco 49ers — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Tennessee Titans relied heavily on the powerful leg of kicker Joey Slye to secure a hard-fought 19-13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in a defensive struggle marked by a dearth of touchdowns. Slye connected on five field goals, including three from beyond 50 yards, providing the decisive margin in a game where offensive trips to the end zone were rare. His consistent accuracy kept the Titans ahead as both offenses largely stalled after early scores.

Tennessee opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 5-yard rush by Tony Pollard, followed by a Joey Slye extra point, giving them a 7-0 lead. San Francisco quickly answered early in the second quarter when Patrick Taylor Jr. plunged in from 1 yard, tying the game after an Eddy Pineiro kick. Slye then began his impressive day, converting a 39-yard field goal and later a long 55-yarder before halftime, sending the Titans into the break with a 13-7 advantage. The second half continued the pattern of field goals, with Pineiro hitting a 52-yarder in the third quarter to pull the 49ers within three points.

However, it was Slye's steady performance that ultimately dictated the game's outcome. After Pineiro's third-quarter kick, Slye responded with a 53-yard field goal to restore Tennessee's six-point lead. His most impressive kick came in the fourth quarter, a 58-yard blast that pushed the Titans' lead to 19-10 and proved insurmountable. While Eddy Pineiro added a 41-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter for San Francisco, it was not enough to overcome the consistent scoring provided by Slye.

In a contest defined by stout defenses and limited offensive breakthroughs, Tennessee's ability to convert long field goals proved to be the difference. Joey Slye's clutch kicking ensured the Titans capitalized on scoring opportunities, earning them the win and improving their record to 2-1. The 49ers also stand at 2-1 following the loss.
