Arizona Diamondbacks vs Philadelphia Phillies — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Arizona Diamondbacks clawed their way to a narrow 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, with all of their offense coming in a single, decisive five-run fifth inning that ultimately proved insurmountable for the hosts.

The Phillies had managed to build a lead earlier in the contest. Brandon Marsh provided a significant spark for Philadelphia, accounting for three runs with his lone hit of the game, a home run. Despite these efforts, the Diamondbacks mounted a powerful response in the middle frames.

That pivotal five-run outburst in the fifth inning was the undeniable turning point, giving Arizona all the runs they would need for the win. Diamondbacks starter Michael Soroka navigated a challenging outing, surrendering four earned runs over 5.2 innings, but he also struck out ten batters, keeping his team within striking distance until the offense could break through. Marsh's critical home run accounted for the bulk of Philadelphia's scoring, but it wasn't enough to withstand Arizona's concentrated rally.

Ultimately, Arizona's ability to capitalize on one explosive inning outlasted Philadelphia’s scattered offensive contributions. Following the victory, the Diamondbacks improved their record to 67-60, while the Phillies dropped to 68-59.
