Cardinals starter Andre Pallante was a major factor in maintaining that early lead, turning in a strong performance with 6.0 innings pitched, allowing just one earned run and striking out two. However, the Diamondbacks began their push back in the sixth inning. Ketel Marte's single and Carroll's subsequent advance set up Arenado, who grounded out to shortstop but allowed Carroll to score, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The Diamondbacks continued to chip away in the top of the seventh. With one out, Tommy Troy launched a towering 444-foot solo home run to center field, his first of the game, bringing Arizona within a single run at 3-2 and injecting late-game drama into the contest. Troy's blast was the highlight of his night, finishing with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored, earning him top batting honors for the Diamondbacks.

Despite Arizona's rally, St. Louis's bullpen managed to hold the narrow lead through the remaining innings. The Cardinals ultimately secured the 3-2 win, proving the pregame market correct as the favored team came out on top in a tightly contested battle.
