The Toronto Blue Jays, despite entering the game with a 49-58 record against the Houston Astros' 53-55 mark, lived up to their billing as pregame favorites by defeating Houston 4-2 in a tightly contested affair. The Astros were the first to get on the scoreboard, breaking the deadlock in the top of the first inning when Paredes singled to left, driving home Peña for an early 1-0 lead.

However, the Blue Jays quickly answered the call. Kazuma Okamoto, who would later be recognized for his top batting performance, launched a 388-foot solo home run to left-center in the bottom of the second, evening the score at 1-1. Toronto then took its first lead of the day in the fourth inning, as Guerrero Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to left, bringing Giménez across the plate. The Astros, not to be outdone, clawed their way back to tie the game in the top of the sixth, with Altuve's single to right scoring Alvarez to make it 2-2.

The decisive blows came in the late innings for Toronto. In the bottom of the seventh, Straw hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Varsho and giving the Blue Jays a 3-2 advantage. They added an important insurance run in the eighth inning when Kirk's sacrifice fly to left brought Springer home, pushing the lead to 4-2. Blue Jays starter Dylan Cease turned in a strong outing, pitching 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts and allowing just two earned runs, setting the stage for his team's eventual victory. Okamoto's early home run highlighted his two-hit performance, which included an RBI and a run scored, proving pivotal in securing the win for Toronto.
