Cleveland Guardians vs Miami Marlins — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Cleveland Guardians held off a late-inning rally from the Miami Marlins to secure a 3-2 victory, powered by an early offensive surge that established a crucial lead. Miami chipped away at the deficit with solo home runs in consecutive innings, but ultimately fell short by a single run.

Cleveland opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Chase DeLauter launched a 430-foot home run to right center, also scoring Rocchio for a 2-0 advantage. A sacrifice fly from Bazzana in the fifth then extended their lead as Hedges crossed the plate, giving the Guardians a 3-0 cushion. Miami began its comeback attempt in the sixth, with Hernández homering to left, cutting the lead to two. Jiménez followed suit with a 407-foot shot to left center in the seventh, bringing the Marlins within a single run.

The Guardians' early three-run advantage, highlighted by DeLauter's two-run blast and his overall two-hit performance, proved just enough to withstand Miami's persistent threat. While Sandy Alcantara struck out eight over seven innings for the Marlins, the three earned runs he surrendered were precisely what Cleveland needed. The Marlins' offense relied on the long ball to narrow the gap, with Heriberto Hernández and Bryan Jiménez each connecting for solo shots in the latter stages of the game, but these individual efforts weren't enough to string together the necessary runs for a tie or lead.

Ultimately, Cleveland's ability to capitalize early and then maintain their advantage against Miami's late surge decided the contest. The Guardians now stand at 58-56 on the season, matching the Marlins' 58-56 record.
