Game Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks pulled off a significant upset on Tuesday, defying pregame expectations to defeat the favored Los Angeles Dodgers 9-3. Despite the Dodgers entering the contest with a commanding 67-40 record against Arizona's 57-52, the Diamondbacks quickly asserted themselves, taking an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Moreno singled, and both Marte and Carroll scored on a throwing error by right fielder Tucker. However, the Dodgers responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, with Shohei Ohtani and James Outman hitting consecutive solo home runs to left center, tying the game at 2-2.
The early back-and-forth proved to be a prelude to Arizona's dominance. The Diamondbacks broke the tie in the fourth inning, with Tim Tawa launching a 429-foot two-run homer to left center, scoring Arenado and giving Arizona a 4-2 lead. Tawa, who would be the Diamondbacks' top batter of the night, was just getting started. The Diamondbacks widened their advantage further in the fifth, adding two more runs as Moreno grounded out to score Perdomo, and Carroll later crossed the plate on a wild pitch by Henriquez, pushing the score to 6-2.
While the Diamondbacks' offense continued to pile on, starter Eduardo Rodriguez delivered a strong performance, holding the powerful Dodgers lineup in check. Rodriguez pitched six solid innings, striking out five and allowing just the two earned runs from the first-inning homers. The D-backs offense continued to back him up in the sixth, with Tawa driving in another run via a single to left field, scoring Arenado. Perdomo then grounded out, bringing Barrosa home and making it 8-2 in favor of Arizona.
Tawa capped off his impressive night in the eighth inning with yet another RBI single to right, scoring Barrosa for Arizona's ninth run of the game. The Dodgers managed a lone run in the bottom of the ninth when Rojas doubled to left, scoring Edman, but it was far from enough to challenge the Diamondbacks' commanding lead. In a decisive performance, the underdog Diamondbacks handed the heavily favored Dodgers a surprising 9-3 defeat, marking a significant victory on the road.
