Detroit Tigers vs Houston Astros — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Houston Astros steadily built a four-run advantage through the middle innings, stifling the Detroit Tigers' offense for much of the game en route to a home victory. Although Detroit launched solo home runs in the final frames, the early deficit proved insurmountable.

Jeremy Peña opened the scoring for Houston in the third inning, launching a solo home run to left field. The Astros extended their lead in the fifth when Yordan Alvarez doubled to center, scoring Vázquez. Paredes immediately followed with a double to left, bringing Alvarez home. Peña delivered another RBI single in the sixth, driving in Loperfido to make it a four-run game. The Tigers finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh with a solo shot from Carpenter, and McGonigle added another solo homer in the ninth.

Houston's consistent offense through the heart of the game established the critical margin. The two-run fifth inning, highlighted by consecutive doubles from Alvarez and Paredes, provided a significant cushion, which Peña's sixth-inning RBI single further solidified. On the mound, Peter Lambert anchored the Astros' effort, working seven strong innings and allowing only one earned run to keep the Tigers at bay during Houston's offensive surge.

The Astros' ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the middle innings and a solid outing from their starting pitcher ultimately determined the game's outcome, leaving Detroit's late power display merely academic. With this result, Houston improves its record to 64-62, while Detroit falls to 60-65.
