The Pittsburgh Pirates secured a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers, largely thanks to a dominant outing from starting pitcher Braxton Ashcraft and a pivotal three-run rally in the fifth inning. After surrendering a solo home run that gave Detroit a brief lead, Pittsburgh immediately answered, seizing control of the game and never looking back.

Following a scoreless stalemate through the first four frames, Detroit broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth when Callahan homered to right field. However, Pittsburgh responded with force in the bottom half of the inning. Oneil Cruz launched a 422-foot two-run shot to center field, bringing home Valdez and putting the Pirates ahead. Horwitz followed with a single to right, scoring Flores Jr. and extending Pittsburgh’s advantage. An insurance run was added in the eighth inning on a single by Reynolds that scored Triolo.

The bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the decisive turning point, where the Pirates scored all three of their runs. Cruz’s two-run blast provided the crucial momentum swing, immediately negating Detroit’s lead and establishing Pittsburgh's advantage. Ashcraft was a major factor in containing Detroit’s offense throughout the contest, limiting them to just one run over eight masterful innings, striking out four and allowing little sustained pressure. The Tigers’ offense, playing without the injured Riley Greene, struggled to find answers against Ashcraft’s command.

Ultimately, Pittsburgh's combination of outstanding pitching and a timely offensive surge in the fifth inning was enough to overcome the Tigers. The Pirates now stand at 62-66 for the season, while the Tigers fall to 61-65.
