Game Recap
Cincinnati secured a narrow victory over Houston, largely due to a decisive three-run rally in the fifth inning that erased an early Astros lead. Houston's lone run came via a solo home run, but the Reds managed to string together key hits to pull ahead and maintain the advantage.
The game remained scoreless through four frames as both pitchers held opposing offenses in check. Houston finally broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth when Braden Shewmake launched a solo home run to right center field, giving the Astros a one-run advantage. However, Cincinnati responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning when McLain singled to left, scoring Benson and Steer and putting the Reds on top. McLain advanced to second and Trevino, who had walked, made it to third on a throwing error by Houston's left fielder Cole. Elly De La Cruz followed with an RBI single, extending Cincinnati's lead.
The Reds' explosive fifth inning proved to be the pivotal moment of the contest. Trailing after Shewmake's long ball, Cincinnati quickly erased the deficit with McLain's two-run single that put them ahead 2-1. The team then capitalized on the ensuing error, setting up Elly De La Cruz's single which brought home an insurance run, making it a 3-1 game. Despite a solid performance from Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti, who pitched into the sixth inning while allowing only one earned run and striking out five, the Astros' offense couldn't generate any further scoring opportunities after their initial breakthrough.
Ultimately, timely hitting and an opportunistic rally in a single inning allowed Cincinnati to overcome Houston's early lead and secure the win. The Reds moved to 60-65 on the season, while the Astros' record fell to 63-63.
