Kansas City Royals vs Houston Astros — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Houston Astros secured a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals, living up to pregame expectations. Fueled by a pair of solo home runs from Jeremy Peña and a dominant pitching performance from Hunter Brown, the Astros never trailed, establishing an early lead and holding off the Royals' attempts to rally. Both the pregame market and SportsFBI's model, which highlighted Houston's starting pitching edge, correctly favored the Astros to win.

Peña jumpstarted the Astros' offense early, launching a 440-foot blast to left center in the bottom of the first inning. He continued his power surge in the third frame, extending Houston's lead with a 370-foot homer to left. Kansas City broke through in the fifth inning when Jensen doubled to left, scoring Collins. However, Houston immediately answered in the bottom half of the fifth with Yordan Alvarez's 376-foot home run to right, also scoring Peña. Vinnie Pasquantino hit a solo shot for the Royals in the top of the sixth to narrow the deficit, but that would be Kansas City's final run.

The Astros' early offensive production, particularly from Peña, set the tone for the game and provided starter Hunter Brown with a valuable cushion. Brown capitalized on this support, striking out 10 batters over five innings while surrendering just one earned run. While Kansas City managed to break through with Jensen's RBI double in the fifth and Pasquantino's solo homer in the sixth, Houston consistently maintained their advantage. Crucially, Yordan Alvarez's two-run blast immediately after Kansas City scored their first run in the fifth inning re-established a multi-run lead that proved insurmountable for the Royals.

Ultimately, strong starting pitching combined with timely power hitting allowed the Astros to control the game from the outset and thwart any serious comeback bids from the Royals. Houston improved their record to 76-75, while Kansas City fell to 66-85.
