Pittsburgh secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Miami, repeatedly answering the Marlins' scoring attempts before breaking a 2-2 deadlock in the eighth inning. Spencer Horwitz was integral to Pittsburgh's offense, either scoring or driving in all three of their runs.

The Pirates took an early lead in the first when O'Hearn singled to right, bringing home Horwitz. Miami answered in the top of the third as Hicks singled to left, scoring Marsee. Pittsburgh, however, quickly regained its advantage in the bottom of the frame on a Reynolds double that again scored Horwitz. The Marlins once more drew even in the sixth after Hernández's single plated Edwards, setting the stage for late-game drama.

The decisive run came in the bottom of the eighth. Horwitz, who had been a pivotal figure throughout the contest, was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing home Callihan for the go-ahead score. This clutch plate appearance capped Pittsburgh's persistent offense. On the mound, Bubba Chandler delivered a solid 5.2 innings for the Pirates, allowing just two earned runs while striking out six, keeping the team within striking distance until the late breakthrough.

Pittsburgh's ability to consistently answer Miami's scoring and deliver the final, critical blow with runners on base proved to be the difference in the tight contest. The Pirates improved their record to 62-65, while the Marlins dropped to 64-62.
