Seattle Mariners vs Washington Nationals — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Washington Nationals overcame an erased early lead, immediately answering a Seattle rally before decisively pulling away in the later innings to secure an 8-3 victory over the Mariners. After building a three-run advantage in the first, Washington watched Seattle draw even, but quickly reclaimed the lead and then widened the gap with a crucial three-run seventh inning.

The Nationals wasted no time establishing control, scoring three times in the opening frame. Abrams singled to left, bringing home García Jr., who had walked, then advanced to second on the throw. Lile followed with a triple to right, scoring Abrams, before Crews singled him home for a 3-0 lead. Seattle, however, mounted a comeback in the fifth. Garver singled to center, driving in Mastrobuoni, and Emerson then launched a two-run homer to right, tying the game at 3-3. Washington’s offense quickly responded in the bottom of the fifth, with Luis García Jr. hitting a two-run home run to right center, plating Wood and putting the Nationals back in front, 5-3.

The immediate two-run response in the fifth inning, highlighted by García Jr.'s timely blast, proved critical in blunting Seattle's momentum after they had clawed back to tie the game. Washington then broke the game open further in the seventh. Abrams delivered another RBI single, scoring Chaparro, and then an additional run crossed the plate when Abrams advanced home on a pickoff error by Mariners pitcher Bazardo. Tena then singled to center, bringing home Crews and capping off a three-run inning that solidified the Nationals' lead and effectively put the game out of reach.

Washington’s offensive resilience, particularly their ability to answer Seattle's tying rally and then capitalize on late-game opportunities, was the defining factor in their victory. The Nationals now hold a 61-66 record, while the Mariners fall to 59-67 on the season.
