The New York Yankees overcame two deficits, scoring three runs in the seventh inning, to defeat the Boston Red Sox 4-2. Despite a stellar outing from Boston's starting pitcher, New York capitalized on late-game opportunities to secure the road victory.
Boston drew first blood in the bottom of the second inning when Mayer doubled to center field, driving home Story. The Yankees responded in the fifth, as Jazz Chisholm Jr. launched a solo home run to right field, leveling the score. However, the tie was short-lived; NarvΓ‘ez immediately answered for the Red Sox with a solo shot of his own to left center in the bottom of the frame, reclaiming the lead for Boston.
The decisive turning point arrived in the top of the seventh. With two runners on, Bellinger singled to left, scoring both Chisholm Jr. and Grisham to give New York a 3-2 advantage. The inning continued to unravel for Boston when Judge singled to right, and a fielding error by right fielder Abreu allowed Caballero to score an unearned run, extending the Yankees' lead to 4-2. This pivotal three-run inning nullified an impressive performance by Red Sox starter Payton Tolle, who struck out 11 batters and yielded only one earned run over six innings.
The Yankeesβ ability to mount a late-game rally, highlighted by opportunistic hitting and taking advantage of defensive miscues, ultimately determined the outcome. New York now stands at 70-55, while Boston falls to 66-59.
