San Diego Padres vs Colorado Rockies — Recap

📰Game Recap

The San Diego Padres mounted a stunning ninth-inning rally, scoring five runs to overcome an 8-5 deficit and defeat the Colorado Rockies 10-8. The come-from-behind victory saw San Diego trailing by four runs heading into the eighth inning before their potent offense erupted in the final frames.

Colorado initially seized the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Mickey Moniak. While the Padres briefly pulled ahead 2-1 in the top of the second thanks to an Andujar two-run double, the Rockies quickly countered with a four-run explosion in the bottom half. Key hits from Julien, a two-run double by Rumfield, and an RBI single from Johnston pushed Colorado to a 5-2 advantage. They continued to slowly build their lead, making it 6-3 in the fourth, 7-4 in the sixth on Moniak's second homer, and 8-4 in the seventh with an RBI single from Johnston.

The Padres began their ascent in the eighth when Laureano singled home a run, narrowing the gap to 8-5. However, the true turning point came in the ninth. Bogaerts singled home Merrill, followed by Andujar's single that scored Machado, bringing the Padres within one run. With two runners on, Sheets crushed a 379-foot homer to right field, a three-run blast that seized a 10-8 lead for San Diego. Despite Mickey Moniak's outstanding performance for Colorado, collecting four hits, including two home runs, and driving in two, it was not enough to hold off the visiting team's late surge.

San Diego's relentless attack in the later innings, especially their decisive five-run ninth, proved too much for the Rockies to contain. The Padres move to 68-59 on the season, while Colorado drops to 50-76.
