Game Recap
The Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 3-1, building an early three-run lead through the first three innings before stifling Houston's offense to secure the road victory. Seattle's pitching and defense proved resilient, holding the Astros to just a single run despite a respectable outing from Houston's starter.
Seattle opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Canzone singled to left field, bringing home Arozarena. Young followed with another single to right, scoring Raley and extending the lead to 2-0. Julio RodrΓguez then added to Seattle's advantage in the third inning with a 414-foot solo home run to left field, pushing the score to 3-0. Houston managed to cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fifth as Paredes singled to left, allowing Altuve to cross the plate for their only run of the contest.
The Mariners' early offensive surge proved decisive, as they put up all three of their runs in the initial three frames and then relied on their pitching staff to hold off the Astros. Houston's starting pitcher Peter Lambert delivered a respectable outing, striking out six and completing seven innings, but the three earned runs he surrendered in those crucial early frames were enough for Seattle to clinch the win. Despite Lambert's effort, the Astros' lineup struggled to generate consistent offense, leaving ample opportunities untapped throughout the game.
Ultimately, Seattle's ability to score early and maintain a tight defensive effort sealed the victory, preventing Houston from mounting a significant challenge. The Mariners now stand at 60-66, while the Astros fell to 63-63.
