Arizona Diamondbacks vs Chicago Cubs — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Chicago Cubs secured a narrow 6-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, successfully fending off a spirited comeback attempt orchestrated by the visitors in the middle innings after building an early lead. The Cubs' consistent offensive pressure through the first four frames ultimately proved just enough to withstand Arizona’s late surge.

Chicago wasted no time establishing control, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning. A single by Busch brought home both Bregman and Hoerner, followed by Kelly's single that scored Happ to give the Cubs a 3-0 advantage. Arizona responded in the top of the third with Vargas’s RBI single, cutting the deficit. However, the Cubs promptly broke the game open in the fourth when Swanson singled home Kelly, Crow-Armstrong scored on a wild pitch, and Bregman doubled in Swanson, expanding their lead to 6-1.

The Diamondbacks roared back into contention in the sixth inning, mounting their largest scoring frame of the game. Barrosa’s bunt double drove in Fernandez, setting the stage for Geraldo Perdomo, who launched a three-run homer to left field (366 feet). This powerful blast scored Tawa and Barrosa, dramatically shrinking the Cubs’ lead to a precarious 6-5. Cubs starter Colin Rea provided a solid outing, working 5.1 innings with six strikeouts and two earned runs allowed, which helped maintain Chicago's lead before Arizona’s rally.

In the end, the Cubs’ decisive early offense proved just enough to withstand Arizona's aggressive four-run sixth inning and secure the victory. The win pushed Chicago's record to 73-53, while Arizona dropped to 66-60.
