Kansas City Royals vs Seattle Mariners — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Kansas City Royals secured a hard-fought 7-6 victory over the Seattle Mariners, prevailing in a game where they built an early lead, saw it disappear, and then delivered the decisive blow late. Kansas City jumped ahead with four runs in the opening frame, but Seattle gradually battled back to tie the game in the seventh inning before the Royals broke the deadlock in the eighth.

Kansas City wasted no time establishing control, stringing together hits in the first inning. Pasquantino's single scored the initial run, and a throwing error advanced Witt Jr. and Pasquantino. Perez then followed with a two-run double, making it 3-0. Collins continued the rally with an RBI double, extending the lead to 4-0. The Mariners quickly responded in the bottom of the first when Julio Rodriguez launched a two-run homer. Seattle continued to chip away in the fifth, as Joe connected for a solo home run to pull within a single run. The Royals momentarily widened their lead in the sixth with back-to-back solo shots from Pasquantino and Caglianone, only for Arozarena to answer with a solo homer for Seattle in the bottom half.

The game's pivotal moment arrived in the seventh inning when Julio Rodriguez blasted his second home run of the night, a two-run shot that leveled the score at 6-6 and erased Kansas City's early advantage entirely. This towering blast for Seattle, which scored Crawford, set the stage for a tense late-game battle. Despite surrendering four earned runs, Royals starter Cole Ragans managed to strike out eight over 5.1 innings, navigating the Mariners' lineup. However, it was Maikel Thomas's single in the top of the eighth that proved to be the difference, driving home Perez for the go-ahead run and ultimately swinging the outcome back in Kansas City's favor.

Ultimately, the Royals' ability to rebound from a blown lead and manufacture a run in the late innings sealed their win. Their resilience, marked by answering Seattle's game-tying home run with a decisive score of their own, proved critical. The Kansas City Royals improved to 52-74, while the Seattle Mariners fell to 59-67.
