Derek Hill then evened the score for the White Sox in the seventh, blasting a two-run homer to center field.

The Padres' three-run fourth inning, featuring solo home runs from Andujar and Machado, marked their most productive offensive outburst and provided the initial lead. However, the contest remained tight, ultimately swinging in the bottom of the eighth. After Derek Hill's two-run blast for Chicago tied the game in the seventh, Xander Bogaerts delivered the decisive blow for San Diego, an infield single that brought home Laureano and pushed the Padres ahead for good. Pitcher Griffin Canning also proved pivotal, stifling the White Sox through five innings with seven strikeouts while surrendering just one earned run.

Ultimately, San Diego's persistent offense and timely hitting, coupled with solid relief pitching after Canning's exit, allowed them to prevail in a tightly contested affair. The victory moved the Padres' record to 68-58, while the White Sox fell to 65-59.
