Milwaukee Brewers vs Washington Nationals — Recap

📰Game Recap

Washington secured a narrow victory over Milwaukee, overcoming an early deficit with three unanswered runs before holding off a ninth-inning rally.

The Brewers first broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. However, the Nationals immediately responded in the bottom half of the frame, not only tying the game but also taking the lead. An insurance run in the seventh inning further extended Washington’s advantage, which proved crucial as Milwaukee attempted a comeback in the final frame.

The pivotal moment arrived in the bottom of the fifth. After Ortiz’s sacrifice fly gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead, Nasim Nuñez swiftly evened the score with an RBI single, driving in Abrams. Nuñez then scored himself on a triple by Tena, giving Washington a lead it would not relinquish. Nuñez continued to impact the game in the seventh, delivering another RBI single that scored Abrams again, providing a critical two-run cushion.

Washington’s timely hitting, particularly from Nasim Nuñez, proved to be the decisive factor, allowing them to capitalize on their limited scoring opportunities. Milwaukee’s offense, despite a strong six-inning, eight-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Logan Henderson, couldn't generate enough support or complete its late rally. Washington now holds a 61-66 record, while Milwaukee moves to 77-49.
