Game Recap
The Minnesota Twins built an early lead and managed to hold off a late-inning rally from the Toronto Blue Jays, securing a narrow one-run victory. Minnesota scored all four of its runs by the fifth inning, then fended off a ninth-inning two-run home run that brought Toronto within striking distance.
The Twins opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Caratini singled to right, allowing Larnach to cross the plate. The score remained 1-0 until the fifth, when Minnesota's offense broke through for three additional runs. Keaschall doubled to center, scoring Caratini, and Clemens followed with a double of his own to drive in Keaschall. Wallner then capped the rally with another double to left, bringing Clemens home and extending the lead to 4-0. Toronto finally got on the board in the top of the sixth as Varsho reached on a bunt single, scoring Guerrero Jr.
Minnesota's decisive three-run fifth inning proved to be the turning point, creating a significant cushion. While Toronto's Trey Yesavage delivered a strong start, striking out six and allowing just one earned run over four innings, the Twins' bats came alive against the subsequent pitching. Toronto mounted a serious threat in the ninth inning, fueled by Kazuma Okamoto's two-run home run to left center that scored Straw and sliced the deficit to a single run. Despite Okamoto's impactful blast, the Blue Jays' comeback ultimately stalled there.
The Twins' ability to capitalize on their scoring opportunities early, particularly in the pivotal fifth inning, was just enough to withstand Toronto's late push. Minnesota now stands at 61-65 for the season, while Toronto's record moves to 61-66.
