📰Game Recap

The Cincinnati Reds, playing as the underdog, overcame the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 by reclaiming a late lead after squandering an early advantage. The Reds initially built a cushion, only to see it evaporate before securing the decisive runs in the eighth inning.

Pittsburgh first struck in the opening frame when Griffin launched a solo home run to left center. Cincinnati quickly answered in the second, erupting for four runs. Steer’s single brought home the first run, followed by Stephenson’s RBI single. Sacrifice flies from Dunn and De La Cruz capped the inning, giving the Reds a 4-1 lead. The Pirates began to chip away in the fifth with Lowe’s sacrifice fly, then completely erased the deficit in the sixth on back-to-back solo home runs from Ozuna and Valdez, knotting the score at four.

While the Reds’ four-run second inning provided the initial separation, it was Noelvi Marte’s two-run blast in the top of the eighth that truly swung the outcome. With the game tied at four, Marte’s 405-foot homer to left center brought Stewart home and put Cincinnati back in front for good. Reds starter Andrew Abbott delivered a solid outing, striking out six and allowing three earned runs over 5.1 innings, doing enough to keep his team competitive through Pittsburgh’s comeback attempt.

Ultimately, Cincinnati’s resilience to deliver a pivotal late-game hit, even after losing an initial multi-run lead, proved to be the difference. They successfully navigated the Pirates’ rally to secure an important road victory. The Reds now stand at 57-59, while the Pirates drop to 57-62.
