Game Recap
The Houston Astros defeated the New York Mets 7-5, securing a road victory thanks to a decisive four-run eighth inning. This late offensive explosion propelled them past a late-game deficit.
Entering the pivotal eighth frame, the Mets held a 5-3 advantage, having built their lead steadily throughout the game. Houston starter Mike Burrows surrendered three earned runs over 5.1 innings, indicating the Astros' offense would need to carry a significant load. New York maintained its two-run cushion, positioning itself for a home win in the late stages.
The turning point, however, arrived with Houston's powerful eighth inning, during which they erupted for four runs. Christian Walker was central to this rally, delivering a crucial home run and finishing the day with three runs batted in. His contributions were vital in an offensive outburst that not only erased the Mets' lead but also pushed Houston ahead for good.
Ultimately, Houston's ability to generate timely offense and capitalize in a high-leverage situation proved paramount. Their resilience at the plate, highlighted by the eighth-inning surge, ensured a narrow road triumph. The Astros improved to 64-62 with the win, while the Mets fell to 56-70.
