Miami Marlins vs St. Louis Cardinals — Recap

📰Game Recap

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Miami Marlins 7-4, successfully holding off a significant four-run outburst from the visitors. Despite Miami's most productive inning accounting for all of their scoring, the Cardinals consistently found ways to push runs across and maintain their advantage throughout the contest.

St. Louis established an early lead, preventing Miami from ever taking control. The Marlins' offense found its rhythm in the fourth inning, where they scored all four of their runs in a single frame. This offensive surge tightened the game considerably, but the Cardinals managed to limit further damage and prevent the momentum from fully shifting.

Miami's four-run frame in the fourth inning marked their most potent offensive stretch, yet it ultimately wasn't enough to overcome St. Louis. Thomas Saggese delivered a crucial blow for the Cardinals, connecting for a home run and driving in two runs to bolster their lead. His offensive contribution, coupled with a strong relief outing from Matt Pushard, helped secure the win. Pushard tossed two scoreless innings, striking out two and keeping the Marlins at bay after their biggest threat.

The Cardinals' ability to generate offense beyond a single big inning and receive solid pitching in high-leverage situations proved to be the difference. They successfully contained the Marlins' rally and held on for the win. St. Louis now stands at 66-63, while Miami falls to 64-65.
