Game Recap
The Chicago White Sox secured a narrow victory over the Kansas City Royals, overcoming an early deficit and a late tie to prevail. They initially fell behind by two runs but surged ahead with a five-run fifth inning, only to see the Royals tie the game in the very next frame. A solo home run in the eighth inning ultimately provided the decisive run.
Kansas City wasted no time getting on the board, with Witt Jr. and Perez each hitting solo home runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Chicago remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Romo launched a solo shot to cut the deficit. The White Sox then capitalized further in the inning, with Vargas singling in Antonacci to tie the game before Chase Meidroth blasted a three-run homer, pushing Chicago to a 5-2 advantage.
Despite falling behind by three runs, Kansas City mounted an immediate rally in the sixth inning. Loftin delivered a two-run double, bringing the Royals within a single run, and Garcia then singled to right field, scoring Loftin and knotting the score at 5-5. However, the White Sox regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Hill connected for a solo home run to left center, breaking the tie and giving Chicago the decisive edge. Erick Fedde contributed by allowing just two earned runs over five innings on the mound.
Ultimately, the White Sox's ability to respond to Kansas City's early offense, build a significant lead, and then find the winning hit late proved to be the difference. They outlasted the Royals in a back-and-forth affair. The White Sox improved to 66-58, while the Royals fell to 51-75.
