Game Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers, sporting an impressive 67-39 record, overcame an early deficit to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-5, thwarting the 57-49 Phillies' hopes for a significant home stand victory. The Phillies wasted no time in making their mark on the scoreboard, as Alec Bohm launched a 411-foot two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning, bringing Schwarber home and giving Philadelphia an immediate 2-0 lead. Bohm would go on to be the top batting performer for the Phillies, collecting two hits, a homer, three RBI, and a run scored on the day.
The Dodgers began to chip away at the lead in the third when Rushing connected for a 438-foot solo home run to center, cutting the Phillies' advantage to 2-1. Rushing continued his impactful day in the fifth, hitting a double to right field that scored Edman and T. HernΓ‘ndez, giving Los Angeles their first lead of the game at 3-2. However, the Phillies quickly responded in the bottom of the same inning, as De La Cruz blasted a 404-foot solo shot to center, evening the score once more at 3-3. Dodgers pitcher Eric Lauer delivered a steady performance through this back-and-forth, pitching 5.1 innings while striking out five and allowing three earned runs.
Los Angeles wouldn't be denied for long. In the top of the sixth, Muncy hit a 415-foot home run to center, scoring Freeman and pushing the Dodgers ahead 5-3. The real separation, and the game's designated turning point, came in the top of the eighth inning when the Dodgers exploded for four runs. Tucker initiated the surge with a sacrifice fly to center that brought Pages across the plate. Edman then delivered the decisive blow, lacing a triple to center field that cleared the bases, scoring Freeman, Betts, and T. HernΓ‘ndez, and extending the Dodgers' lead significantly to 9-3.
Despite the substantial deficit, the Phillies attempted to mount a late-game rally. Alec Bohm continued his strong offensive outing with a single to right in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Turner and making it 9-4. Realmuto added another run for Philadelphia in the bottom of the ninth with a single to left that scored Marsh, but it was too little, too late. The Dodgers ultimately held on for the 9-5 victory, solidifying their dominant record and proving their resilience on the road.
