Simpson initiated the rally with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Díaz and giving Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead. The offensive surge continued when Mesa Jr. delivered another clutch single to left, driving in Caminero and pushing the score to 3-1. The final run of the frame came when Williamson drew a walk, forcing Mullins home and extending the Rays' lead to a comfortable 4-1.

Toronto attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, with Alejandro Kirk connecting for a 406-foot solo home run to left center, narrowing the gap to 4-2.
